Board

LIFE Institute has a governing body ─consisting of a Board of Directors and a Fiscal Council─ that plays an important role in guiding the organization’s activities.

Board

According to the Institute’s By-laws, the main responsibilities of the Board include: defining the policies that guide the general operations of LIFE Institute; approving LIFE Certification’s standards and methodologies presented by the permanent or temporary Technical Commissions; monitoring the implementation of LIFE Institute’s Strategic Plan and approving the admission of new members.


Meet the Board

Clóvis Borges Clóvis Borges  is a Veterinarian Doctor with a M.Sc. in Mastozoology. He is a founding member of LIFE Institute and current Executive Director of the Society for Wildlife Research and Environmental Education (SPVS), a Brazilian NGO. Mr. Borges is a fellow of the Ashoka Foundation and of the Fundación AVINA and, since 1982, he has been participating of various initiatives for the conservation and preservation of the flora and fauna in Brazil. He has been honored with various awards in recognition for his work and his leadership role in SPVS projects.
Fernando Fernandez Fernando Fernandez, is a biologist with a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Durham/England. A Professor of Ecology at UFRJ, his main interest in both teaching and researching is “The Biology of Conservation”. Mr. Fernandez is also the author of “The Imperfect Poem”, an important book in the Ecology area.
Giem Guimarães Giem Guimarães, 39, is the General Director of Posigraf – one of the Founding Organization Members of LIFE Institute. He is currently a Master’s student in the Business Administration Program at Positivo University and a member of YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization). Recognized for his commitment to protecting our nature heritage, in Paraná, he is one of the greatest promoters of the preservation of Araucaria Forest, an endangered ecosystem unique to southern Brazil.
Miguel Krigsner Mário Monzoni - Professor and Coordinator of the Sustainability Study Center (GVces) at FGV-EAESP. Previously worked for the Research Department of the World Bank. Has a Ph.D. in Public and Government Administration from FGV-EAESP, a Master in Economic Policy Management from School of International & Public Affairs (SIPA), Columbia University, New York, NY, USA; and a Master in Public Finances from FGV-EAESP. He graduated in Business Administration from FGV-EAESP and is a specialist in Sustainability, Environment Finances and Economy.
Miguel Krigsner Miguel Krigsner is a biochemist and founder of O Boticário, the largest perfume and cosmetics franchise in the world, and mentor of the O Boticário Foundation for Nature Protection using its own resources to invest in environmental conservation. Throughout his life as a business leader, Krigsner has been honored with many awards – the most recent, “Immortal Brazilian”, awarded by the mining company Vale as a recognition, by popular vote, of personalities who contribute to the sustainable development of the country. With the award, he had also named after him one of the six species discovered in the Vale Nature Reserve located in Linhares, northern of Espírito Santo.
Miguel Milano Miguel Milano is a Forest Engineer, with a M.Sc. and a Ph.D. degree in Forestry Sciences. He is currently a Board member of various renowned institutions such as O Boticário Foundation for Nature Protection (Curitiba, PR), Forest Trends (Washington, D.C., USA) and O Eco (Rio de Janeiro, RJ). Milano is also a regular Visiting Professor at Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO, USA) and has dedicated his life’s work to nature conservation.
Paulo Monteiro Paulo Monteiro Barbosa Filho, is an Electric Engineer with an MBA in Management and Strategic Plan. As EBX Group’s New Business Director, he has been responsible for the company’s Strategic Plan on Energy since 2001. With 27 years of experience in the electric energy sector, he was Enersul’s Executive Director, responsible for the Electric Energy Generation Park Strategic Plan, as well as for feasibility studies and negotiations for establishing a gas company in Mato Grosso do Sul. He was also a consultant for the Federation of Industries of Mato Grosso do Sul (FIMS) and the Federation of Heavy Industries in the same state.

Fiscal Council

As set forth in the organization’s by-laws, the Fiscal Council is responsible for LIFE Institute’s Financial Controllership and for providing financial guidance to the Board. Its main functions are: analyzing and issuing opinions on the annual Financial Statement and recommend the hiring of external independent auditing firms.

Meet LIFE Institute Fiscal Council’s members:

Everson Breda Everson Breda is ZHC Group’s Partner-Director and a graduate course Professor. He has an MBA, and a B.S. in Accounting with specialization in Auditing, Tax and Corporate Law and. He’s an experienced consultant evaluating companies and risks, both in Brazil and worldwide.
Jucimar Nunes Jucimar Nunes is a CPA and a lawyer with specialization courses in Controlling and Finance. He has been an Independent Auditor since 1993, and a Partner-Director at Audaspar SS, an auditing company, and a Partner-Director at Valim Nunes Advogados Associados, a firm specialized in corporate and tax law.
